Financial Report
RCSC has ended February 2018 within its operating and capital budget year to date. Every division has exceeded its income projections year to date while operating under the budgeted wages, taxes and benefits. Utilities, on the other hand, have come in higher than budgeted and overall, utilities expense ends February with a $29k deficit year to date. In the end, each division has operated within its overall operating budget and has a positive variance year-to-date.
Bowling
Starting in May, Bell Lanes will begin the monthly summer No-Tap bowling tournaments which are held the last Sunday of each month. The first tournament will be held on May 27, 2018. All bowlers are welcome whether USBC certified or not.
The 30th Annual Sun City Open Senior Bowling Tournament will begin April 28 and will run for two weekends. The tournament produces income of $5k to $6k. The tournament is open to all senior bowlers in Arizona. It is always a joy to receive the compliments from the bowlers about the cleanliness and upkeep of our two RCSC bowling centers. We have one bowler from Phoenix who has bowled all 29 tournaments and this year will be his 30th. We also have several bowlers with over 20 year’s participation in the tournament. This has been a very successful tournament and provides us an opportunity to show off RCSC facilities.
Cardholder Services
Payments on past due assessments in February were 11.5% of past due balances. Overall accounts receivables increased in February by 2.1%. The increase in current assessments impacted the increase in total accounts receivables the most this month. Over 90 day past due assessments and total past due assessments were both at their lowest level in over 6 years. January assessments went 30 days past due at a rate of 5.2%. December assessments went 60 days past due at a 3.1% rate.
Payments from our third-party collections firm in February continued strong totaling $25,114 which is a 44% increase over 2017. Payments made by Cardholders through the online RCSC Web Portal increased in February and totaled $121,838 from 275 property owners. Year to date web portal payments total $234,932 from 529 property owners.
In February, property transfer balances increased by 4% and lender related balances increased by 31% as properties turn over. Outstanding balances related to property transfers continued to represent 53% of all receivables and past due balances. At the end of February, trustee sale notices on Sun City AZ properties ended at 47 and properties owned by lending institutions at 19.
Preservation and Improvement Fees collected in February were $570,100 which is $104,600 over the amount budgeted. Year to date PIF fees are $1,147,500, which is $342,500 over budget for the year. The year to date total is down 5% from 2017. A reminder that we intentionally budget PIF income very conservatively to assure that we have the cash on hand for any planned project as we remain debt free.
Human Resources
With the upcoming closures of Willowbrook/Willowcreek golf courses and South snack shop for projects, we will work to reassign employee duties as needed to avoid employee layoffs.
Since the beginning of the year, we have hired 23 individuals to fill positions as a result of turnover, as well as, other vacant positions. Twenty six individuals have left the company during this time period. Currently there are 389 individuals on staff at RCSC.
Member Services
The month of March started with Dancing with the Sun City Stars with an incredible performance by the Utah Ballroom Dance Company. On March 7 the spring concert series continued at Sundial as we welcomed to the stage Neon Circus, the best Brooks and Dunn tribute on the circuit. On March 14 we were honored to have Gary Puckett and the Union Gap perform flawlessly for another sold-out crowd. Then on March 21 a Doobie Brothers tribute, Listen to the Music, took the stage at Sundial for the first time! The final show of the spring concert series on March 28 was a rare treat with Carla Cooke, the daughter of the late, great Sam Cooke, who performed all of her father’s hits as well as her own!
On Saturday, March 10 we held our third annual Senior Prom. Everyone dressed in our Paris theme and looked amazing with top hats, evening gowns and berets. What a fun evening!
We kicked off the Sun Bowl spring series on Sunday, March 11 with 60’s Forever. Then on Monday, March 12 we were treated to the incredible performance of the United States Navy Sea Chanters band. On Sunday, March 18 we welcomed Backstage Crew to our stage for the first time. Unfortunately, it was a cold night and those who weathered the cold loved the performance and danced non-stop. The last Sun Bowl show of March 2018 was Nashville Gold. The name says it all and the performance was golden!
The month will end with the Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Sun Bowl on Saturday, March 31. There will be face painting, pony rides and a petting zoo, along with candy, toys and prizes. Remember that the Annual Easter Egg Hunt and all free events are available to RCSC Cardholders and their escorted guests only.
