Sun City Raises Funds for Yarnell Fire Victims

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Recreation Centers of Sun City (RCSC) joined in a statewide effort recently sponsored by the Southwest Section PGA in a fundraising campaign to help the community of Yarnell and the victims of the June 30 Granite Mountain Hot Shot tragedy.

Beginning in mid-July, fire boots were placed for 19 days at all RCSC golf pro shops in addition to Cardholders Services and the Clubs & Activities Offices where monies were donated by Cardholders. In addition, several RCSC Board Members expressed interest in having a golf tournament to help with the cause. An informal skins game was quickly organized and played on August 2 at the North Golf Course.

“I was very humbled by the outpouring of support by our residents and the RCSC staff,” said Brian Duthu, RCSC Director of Golf. “We were expecting 40 to 50 golfers to turn out and were very surprised to have that number double to 102.” Along with a 50/50 raffle, RCSC raised over $1,900. All donations were delivered by Duthu during an event at Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale where the 20th Hotshot, Brendan McConough, spoke. “Having a chance to meet Brendan and to see the reception he was given by golfers from around the state was very moving.”

Over $100,000 was raised during this statewide effort overall. Special thanks are given to those golf tournament winners who donated their winnings back into this fundraising effort.
