RCSC Executive Coordinator attains CMCA certification

RCSC is proud to share that Executive Coordinator Deanna Szentmiklosi has attained designation as Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA), which will make her an even greater asset to the organization and the Sun City community.

“We are proud of Deanna and her attainment of CMCA,” said RCSC Board President Vance Coleman. “It is a testament to her dedication and skill that she has achieved such a distinction.”

CMCA certification is administered by the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM) and is the only national certification program that recognizes community association managers who have successfully demonstrated fundamental knowledge and expertise in community management by completing certain requirements and have agreed to comply with the Standards of Professional Conduct.

Szentmiklosi, a Sun City resident, serves as Executive Coordinator with RCSC. In this role, she performs numerous duties on behalf of the Board of Directors and the General Manager requiring a strong knowledge of the organization and community management. Such duties include preparing agendas, minutes, reports, correspondence and research for the board and general manager, as well as helping to maintain the organization’s corporate records and acting as a liaison to cardholders and visitors on behalf of the Board and management.

“Deanna is the woman behind the scenes who works tirelessly to ensure the board and I function smoothly,” said General Manager Jan Ek. “Her many skills and talents make her an invaluable asset to RCSC.”

In her past life, Deanna worked as a paralegal in her native Michigan. She is married to Bill Szentmiklosi, who serves as SCHOA’s General Manager; has a grown son and three grandchildren she doesn’t see as often as she’d like.

Achieving CMCA certification required completion of a course called the Essentials of Community Association Management M-100, which is administered by the Community Association Institute (CAI). This extensive course covers:

• Roles and responsibilities of owners, committees, and board members
• 10 steps to developing rules
• How to maintain records for legal support of board actions
• Manager’s role in organizing and assisting in board meetings
• Manager’s role in preparing the budget
• Seven characteristics of an effective collection policy
• Overview of financial operations
• Characteristics of insurance as a contract
• How to develop effective maintenance records
• How to establish five basic maintenance programs
• How to evaluate your management systems and efforts
• How to prepare a bid request for RFP
• Key contract provisions
• Recruiting, screening, and selecting people

Upon completion of the M-100 course, CMCA candidates must sit for the CMCA Examination, a three-hour, 120-multiple-choice question test. To maintain her CMCA certification, Szentmiklosi will have to continue education and training on an annual basis.
