FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Negotiations are continuing between the Recreation Centers of Sun City and the Maricopa County Library District regarding leases at both the Bell and Fairway Recreation Centers which are due to expire by the end of April.
Despite high usage by community members (and also residents outside of Sun City), Maricopa County Library District budget cuts have officials feeling they can no longer pay rent. RCSC has provided utilities, janitorial, maintenance and skilled trade services at no charge at both library branches since the leases began five years ago.
Failure to continue these leases will result in a loss to RCSC of more than $130,000 annually, while continuing to maintain much of the operating costs of the libraries.
A meeting is scheduled next week with Maricopa County Supervisor Clint Hickman and Maricopa County Library District officials to see if an agreement between the parties can be reached that works for everyone.
