FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Recreation Centers of Sun City is pleased to announce the 38th Annual Ring That Bell Ceremony on Monday, July 4, 2016 in the Bell Center Social Halls beginning at 9:00 a.m.
This patriotic, time-honored tradition celebrates our nation’s birthday in unique Sun City AZ style with our very own Uncle Sam (portrayed by Sun City resident Mike Lindquist) serving as the Master of Ceremonies.
However, the celebration doesn’t stop there. The fun continues in the Social Halls for RCSC Cardholders and their escorted guests as we salute America with an old fashioned “indoor” picnic from 11a.m. to 2p.m.
There will be games, prizes, music, dancing and lots more so count on plenty of good times and fun for everyone attending – guaranteed!
This year we’ll be serving real all-American picnic fare – hot dogs, potato chips and bottled water for only $3, with proceeds earmarked for the RCSC Management Team’s 2016 fundraising beneficiary, The Sun City Foundation.
No birthday party is complete without cake and we’ll have that, too! What’s more, there will be free bowling, shuffleboard, darts and billiards over at Bell Lanes to keep everyone having fun on a hot afternoon (from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
Stop by and Ring That Bell! It is certain to be an all-American, only in Sun City AZ kind of celebration.
The Bell Recreation Center is located at 16820 N. 99th Ave.
Later that day, keep on celebrating at the All Stars Big Band 20th Anniversary Celebration at the Mountain View Recreation Center with performances at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sponsored by the Sun City Players Community Theater, this event is free and open to the public.
The Sun City All Stars Big Band began with a group of 20 handpicked former professional musicians who retired in the Sun City area. Twenty years later, the average age is now 78. The group’s oldest member at 96 years young is a veteran of the “big band” era who played with the Dick Jergens’ Orchestra as trumpet soloist and band arranger. The youngest member of the band is 56 year old Dan Reed, who serves as their musical director and featured solo trumpeter.
Known throughout the West Valley for her vocal talent, featured female vocalist Jane Higgs is without peer and sings in various groups in the area. She also has a CD release titled “Jane Higgs Sings with the All Stars.” Featured male vocalist is Bill Lohmeyer, who is well known and featured in many “Sun City Players Community Theater” musical productions.
This is certain to be a 4th of July performance that will keep the audience wishing for more. Donations will be gracious accepted at the end of the concert to help defray expenses.
The Mountain View Center is located at 9749 N. 107th Ave., both in Sun City.
