Within the borders of Sun City, AZ, there are numerous medical doctors, dentists, eye, hearing, and other specialists, as well as a top-rated medical center. Getting around is easy too. Many Sun City, AZ, residents own and use licensed golf carts as their transportation around the community. These are allowed on all Sun City, AZ, streets with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less. Located in the middle of Sun City AZ is the Banner Boswell Medical Center where Sun City’s residents have received outstanding patient care since 1970. More than 700 physicians provide a full spectrum of medical services. This welcoming, supportive environment encourages family and friends to participate in the treatment and healing process. Primary specialty areas at Banner Boswell include cardiology, neurosciences, orthopedic, rehabilitation, and oncology services.

Banner Boswell is a designated NICHE hospital through the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing. The NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders) designation means that Banner Boswell has met the criteria for providing optimal care to the geriatric population. Banner Boswell became a nationally-certified Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center in 2010 and has been designated a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer since 1987. Banner Boswell’s Medical Imagining department holds the American College of Radiology accreditation for CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, and PET.

World-class Medical Research & Support Services

Thanks to the Banner Sun Health Research Institute, Banner Boswell patients have access to world-class research, medical experts, and clinical trials without ever leaving Sun City AZ. The Institute focuses on research, clinical care, prevention, and education regarding age-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, arthritis, and cancer. The Banner Sun Health Research Institute is one of just 31 Alzheimer’s Disease Core Centers in the nation.

Along with superior medical care available in Sun City AZ, there are also a variety of support groups and options available for Alzheimer’s Caregivers, Aphasia, Breast Cancer, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), Laryngectomee, Ostomy, Parkinson’s, Parkinson’s Partners, Respiratory, and Stroke. These support groups and facilities are extremely helpful for those afflicted as well as their families and caregivers.

A Community Focused On Individuals

Not only is world-class medical help just minutes away from any Sun City AZ residence, when 911 is dialed for emergency medical assistance, the Sun City Fire Department is dispatched with paramedics that are highly revered and respected within the community who are considered among the best-trained paramedics available.

To assist their emergency medical response to residents of Sun City AZ, many homes have lock boxes with a key inside that only the Sun City Fire Department can open to gain access to locked doors. Once inside, Sun City AZ residents are encouraged to have the “Vial of Life” available for the paramedics. The “Vial of Life” is a recycled prescription medication bottle. While it does not have medication inside, it does contain forms that residents have prepared and documented their medical history, current medications, any allergies, primary care physician, and more. With its bright red sticker, the “Vial of Life” can be easily spotted in a visible location in the refrigerator. Volunteers at Banner Boswell Medical Center assist residents in assembling the vials. They are available at no charge to Sun City AZ residents.
