RCSC Announces Candidates Running in 2020 Elections

The Recreation Centers of Sun City Board of Directors and the Elections Committee is pleased to announce the names of the candidates who will be on the ballot in this year’s election:

  • Steve Collins
  • Kat Fimmel
  • Martin Heinrichs
  • Dale Lehrer
  • Karen McAdam
  • Sheila Rooney
  • Sue Wilson

These candidates are vying for five RCSC Board of Directors positions of varying terms. The three directors whose terms on the Board are expiring at the end of the year are: President Dan Schroeder, Vice President Dale Lehrer and Treasurer Sue Wilson. In addition, two other seats on the Board need to be filled during this election cycle. The top three candidates with the most votes will serve three-year terms; the fourth vote-getter will serve a two-year term and the fifth-place winner will serve for one year. All candidates must receive a minimum of 100 votes in order to win a seat on the Board. Should there not be five eligible winners, the Board will appoint another Member to complete the term(s) which remain unfilled.

RCSC Cardholders will have the opportunity to meet the candidates and hear their stance on the issues at two upcoming Candidate Forums: Monday, November 2 from 2 to 4pm and Thursday, November 5 from 6 to 8pm. Due to current physical distancing requirements, both Forums will be held in the Sundial Auditorium. Candidates will be available to meet and greet RCSC Cardholders starting 30 minutes prior the start of each session but due to health restrictions, no refreshments will be served. RCSC Cardholders will also have an opportunity to view video recordings of these sessions on the RCSC YouTube channel if they are unable or uncomfortable attending in person.

Other opportunities to meet and speak with the candidates include at upcoming Board Meetings (if able to attend) on October 12, 29, November 9, 19 and December 7. All Board Meetings begin at 9am in the Sundial Auditorium.

Out of an abundance of caution during this time, candidate literature will not be available at various recreation centers and golf pro shops this year. Candidate biographies will be available in upcoming editions of the SunViews newsletter and online via the RCSC Web Portal once voting begins on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 8am.

While RCSC Members are encouraged to sign up and use the RCSC Web Portal to cast their ballots, they will also be able to vote in-person on Election Day (Tuesday, December 8) from 8am to 4pm in the Lakeview Social Hall #2 should that be their preference.

Lastly, absentee ballots may be requested by contacting the RCSC Corporate Office at 623-561-4600 beginning on November 9; the last day to request an absentee ballot be mailed is Tuesday, December 1. Members also have the option of picking up an absentee ballot at the Corporate Office during this period, but all ballots must be received no later than December 8.

Those elected to serve on the Board will be sworn in at the Board Meeting on Thursday, December 17, 2020 in the Sundial Auditorium.
