General Centers Information
- The RCSC is making plans to update the landscaped areas around Bell and Sundial Centers. The work will include raking & cleaning the existing rocked areas, repairing irrigation lines to plants, trees and shrubs and installing additional decorative rock in the planter areas. Contractor for this project is National Turf. (Estimated Cost – $85,500)
Fairway Center / South Maintenance
- The Fairway Phase II project received a Certificate of Temporary Occupancy from Maricopa County Building and Planning Department at 5pm on Friday, November 4, 2011. The facility was then opened for cardholder use on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. (Completion of some guard rail modifications and installation of the pool/spa shade sails were still required for issuance of the final Certificate of Occupancy.) Since all items are now completed, final submittals have been delivered to Maricopa County Planning and Development. Once Maricopa County Planning and Development verifies that they have all the required project documentation they will issue a final Fairway (Phase 2) Certificate of Occupancy.
- Recently our fitness equipment mechanic (Frank Furey) was asked by cardholders to provide some lightweight dumbbells to be used while walking the indoor track. I am happy to report that the requested rubberized weights are now situated on a rack in the southwest corner of the track facility.
- On Saturday, November 26, 2011, the RCSC was notified that the South Golf Maintenance building was on fire. The fire completely destroyed the golf maintenance building, the contents of the building and a few pieces of golf equipment. The RCSC is currently working with our insurance company on this claim and has set a tentative date of January 31, 2012, to completely demolish the old building and clean up the site. I will share more information about this project in future reports.
Lakeview Center / Lakeview Lanes
- The Lakeview exterior painting project is now completed and the screen printing of the Lakeview Lanes window shade awnings is also completed. Contractors for this project included Quality Painting and Arizona Bag and Shade. (Cost – $48,937)
- The re-carpeting project at Lakeview Lanes is now completed. Contractors for this project include Baker Bros Carpeting and Dave Clayton Billiards. (Cost – $44,742)
Sundial Center, Lakes E/W
- The Lakes E/W Snack Shop now has new vinyl flooring and new tables and chairs in the dining area. The base tile has now been installed and the project is complete except for some wall painting which will be done in the next few months by the RCSC skilled trades painter. Contractors for this project are Puckett’s Flooring and the RCSC Skilled Trades Department. (Estimated Cost – $5,600)
- The artificial turf on the Sundial mini golf course has now been replaced. A few plastic replacement cups have been ordered to replace some broken ones but the course is open for play. Contractor for this project was Puckett’s Flooring. (Cost – $22,124)
- Recently some work was done on the sewer lift stations at Sundial Center. The work consisted of replacing four floats and level controls, pumping/cleaning out both sumps and replacing the alarm float on the SW lift station. Contractor was WaterMasters. (Cost – $1,978)
Bell Center / Bell Lanes
- A 36-inch crossover duct and associated motorized damper & controls are being added to the supply air duct system at Bell Lanes. This upgrade is needed to bridge the two main supply ducts so the two large air handlers can assist one another to more efficiently satisfy the cooling needs within Bell Lanes. Contractor is Johnson Controls. (Cost – $14,427)
- Fifty-Eight compact florescent “can” lights in the Bell Craft corridors are being retrofitted with new LED replacements. This type of retrofit replaces all components within the current light housing with new components so essentially the RCSC has new LED fixtures which will last for years to come. Contractor is Accel Electric. This installation will complete the 2011 lighting retrofit / upgrade project.
- Planning has begun, in the form of preliminary drawings, for the recently approved expansion of the Bell Wood and Metal shops. Once these drawings are received they will be reviewed by the RCSC and then taken to the two clubs for comments and suggestions prior to final approval and further building design.
- Over the last few years the RCSC has received many cardholder requests to eliminate smoking around the Bell pools and spa. Since the RCSC recently decided that no smoking would be allowed around the pools and spa at Fairway Center it was decided that Bell Center should also be a non-smoking facility. No smoking signs are now posted at both Bell and Fairway Centers.
Marinette Center
- Work is underway by Crown Castle (tower owner) to replace the existing mono pole cell phone tower at Marinette Center which is currently occupied by Sprint Spectrum L.P. The replacement tower will be a mono pine tower situated just east of the existing tower location. Crown Castle will pay all costs associated with this project.
- Crack repairs will be made to the Marinette asphalt pickleball and tennis courts from February 6-10. Contractor will be Arizona Master Court. (Cost – $5,645)
Skilled Trades Department
- The Skilled Trades department completed 126 work orders during the month of December 2011. (Total work orders completed does not include other non-work order tasks.)
Clubs and Activities Department
- The Clubs and Activities Office implemented a Wedding Planner Booklet for wedding inquiries they receive from cardholders and non-cardholders. The booklet includes hall information about Lakeview and Fairway Center (those being the two centers for weddings and receptions), the prices, most frequently asked questions and also has a couple of setup examples. This Wedding Planner is also available on the RCSC’s website.
- The Sundial Winter Shows have had great attendance in January. Don’t miss the February and March Shows which include: “Sons of the Pioneers,” “These Three Tenors” and “Highway Legends.” Please contact the Clubs & Activities office for show dates and performance times.
- In 2011, RCSC clubs donated $34,568.50 to the organization. The RCSC would like to thank the clubs for their donations.
- Allen Kleinhans the RCSC audio / video technician reported that he has completed the installation of a new CCTV monitor, camera and power supply for the Facility Attendant at Mountain View Center. He also installed a public address system in the Fairway classroom and erected a new antenna at Lakeview Center which will provide signal to the forthcoming Fitness televisions. At the present time he is replacing several “output” components on the Mountain View Auditorium sound system including speakers, amplifier, signal processor and much of the wiring.
Grounds / Irrigation Department
- The RCSC Grounds & Irrigation Department continued to mow, water and clean all RCSC lawn bowl greens. The team also mowed all the grass areas at the Sunbowl property, replaced / repaired irrigation lines at various RCSC locations, removed two dead trees at Mountain View Center and assisted with other tasks as assigned.
Don’t Forget!
