FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renovations are currently underway on Willowbrook Golf Course that are part of the full-scale irrigation project scheduled for the Willowcreek/Willowbrook property, slated to begin in April 2017.
In order to address concerns expressed by some neighboring property owners, RCSC Director of Golf and Grounds Brain Duthu has issued the following statement:
The lake renovation work around hole #5 represents a significant amount of work that will help ease the time table for next year’s irrigation project. An important part of the lake renovation is increasing the storage capacity for irrigation water. Prior to construction the lake averaged 9′ to 10′ in the deepest areas; following the renovation the lake will have a 15′ depth. In order to achieve this depth, 6,600 cubic yards of material needs to be removed.
Part of the original master plan for Willowbrook calls for lengthening the 4th hole. Since it was necessary to find a suitable location for this lake material, it is being placed around the tee box. The material from the lake will be topped with additional material and sand and then sprigged or sodded. Some material will also be used towards the construction of the Willowcreek/Willowbrook maintenance yard later this year. The bulk of material is being distributed between the 7th and 3rd holes, topped with less rocky material and sprigged.
The finished lake will be lined to prevent seepage and gunite will be used to prevent shore erosion. The lake will be fully aerated to help control algae. Golfers and adjacent homeowners will also enjoy two fountains that will produce additional aeration and provide aesthetic value. The pump station will be energy efficient and provide the golf course superintendent greater control over the irrigation system than the previous station. This portion of the project is expected to be completed by mid-July.
The RCSC Golf & Grounds Department appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as we continue to improve our courses and our efforts to conserve resources.
