On Monday, November 7th the Board/Member exchange meeting was filled with lawn bowlers all dressed in white as they politely and respectfully asked the RCSC Board of Directors to reconsider closing the Oakmont lawn bowling green. As had been discussed when lawn bowlers also came out in droves to ask the Board to consider adding a lawn bowling green to the Fairway Recreation Center which was originally designed without one, the RCSC Board of Directors had informed the Lawn Bowling Advisory Committee when they first reconvened after summer break in October that the Oakmont green would be closing when Fairway’s lawn bowl green opened.
As a result of this plea, the RCSC Board of Directors has made a decision to keep Oakmont’s lawn bowling green open until the end of the season, April 30, 2012, despite the fact that Fairway’s new artificial lawn bowl green opened today. In the meantime, the RCSC Board will provide a specific charter to the Lawn Bowling Advisory Committee in time for their December meeting asking them to come up with some resolutions regarding specific issues with Sun City lawn bowling.
The RCSC Board wishes to extend their gratitude for the comments and sentiment expressed by the Sun City lawn bowlers and the manner and spirit in which these were given and therefore received. We believe that the fiduciary responsibilities of the Board, as well as the desires and wishes of the lawn bowling community can be met with an amicable resolution for all.
