General Centers Projects and Information
• Robert Ortiz was hired in January 2014 to assume the position of Grounds Supervisor. Robert will oversee the landscaping maintenance at all RCSC centers and the maintenance of all Lawn Bowling greens. Robert’s extensive training and experience in turf management will certainly help the RCSC meet its grounds maintenance goals and objectives. Welcome aboard Robert!
• The RCSC has completed a thorough review of various card access security systems for its ongoing building security needs. Recently the RCSC hired the Multi Card Company to bring this technology to our facilities. The current plan is to set up the card access software and meet with club officers at Fairway Center prior to installing door hardware on each club room door, and on the East entrance doors. Once these installations are successfully completed the RCSC will determine other locations to upgrade with this new technology. Benefits of Card Access include: key and locksmith cost reductions, tracking and reporting of door openings, and immediate deletion of lost access devices, to name a few. Obviously there will be many cardholder questions about this new technology, and how it works, so I will keep cardholders and club officers updated as best I can as we work through the installation process. Contractor is Multi Card. (Phase 1 Cost – $ 52,000)
Mt. View Center
• Demolition is completed for the seven (7) new pickleball courts at Mt View. The next steps for this project include trenching, light pole footings and forming of the court surfaces. All seven courts will be constructed using post tension concrete. Please note that after the post tensioned concrete is poured, there is a 28 day waiting period for the concrete to cure before the final colored top coatings can be applied. The two tennis courts at Mt. View will remain open for tennis play, and pickleball players are asked to use the Marinette Center courts during construction. Contractor is Sunland Sports and CCBG Architectural. (Cost – $243,681)
South Golf Maintenance
• The replacement 6,000 s.f. South Golf Maintenance building is completed. Contractors for this project included Bunger Steel, Inc, Jokake Construction, Northstar Construction, CCBG Architectural and Accel Electric. (Approximate Cost – $475,000, After insurance)
Oakmont Center
• The Oakmont pool, spa and equipment room project began January 27, 2014 with closure and drainage of the pool and spa. Contractors to date include CCBG Architectural, K.L. McIntyre Construction and Aquatic Builders. (Cost – $529,416)
Lakeview Center
• The upper and lower ramps on the east (red) entrance at Lakeview Center are now demolished and re-grading is underway. The new ramps will have a much more gradual slope, making it easier for cardholders and guests to access the facility. Contractor is Ken McIntyre Construction. (Cost – $120,975)
Bell Center
• Two high efficiency commercial water heaters for the outside shower rooms and swimming pool showers were found to be beyond repair. The water heaters were replaced with (5) Rinnai tankless commercial water heaters. The new tankless water heaters are operating well and helping the RCSC save energy. Contractor was Sunland Plumbing and Construction. (Cost – $25,381)
• Four mechanical units (HVAC) were recently replaced at Bell Center, as they had served their useful life. Contractor was Sunland Plumbing and Construction. (Cost – $29,990)
Sundial Center
• The two electronic display signs for Sundial Center are now installed and in use. Many positive comments have been received about the new signs. Contractors for this project included Bootz and Duke Sign Company, Supercharged Electric, Ken McIntyre Construction and the RCSC Grounds department. (Cost – $102,107)
• Three mechanical units (HVAC) are currently being replaced at Sundial Center as they have served their useful life. Contractor is Sunland Plumbing and Construction. (Cost – $38,360)
Marinette Center
• The building plans for the Marinette building expansion have been submitted to Maricopa County Planning and Development for first review. While the County reviews the plans the RCSC will also review the plans so all corrections can take place before second submittal to Maricopa County and to various builders for construction proposals. Once construction proposals are obtained, the project will be submitted to the RCSC bid commission for final approval. Site and floor plan drawings are on display for cardholders at various centers, including Marinette, Bell, Sundial and Fairway.
Skilled Trades Department
• The RCSC Skilled Trades department completed 131 work orders during the last half of December 2013 and the 1st half of January 2014. This total does not include other routine and specialized work completed outside of the work order system.
