Fairway Center and South, Quail Run Pro Shops

The Fairway Phase 2 project continues to progress towards completion following the RCSC’s receipt of the additional pool/spa permit from Maricopa County Planning and Development. Items yet to be completed have dwindled down to the following:

  • Installation of walking pool and spa sails.
  • Installation of hand rails, ladders and lifts on the pools and spa.
  • Completion of chlorine and acid systems for the pool and spa.
  • Filling of the pools and spa and balancing of chemicals.
  • Passage of final inspections by Maricopa County Planning and Development and Maricopa County Environmental Services. The RCSC plans to open this facility in early to mid October 2011, but the actual opening date will be determined by the issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy by Maricopa County.

The Skilled Trades department completed 203 work orders during the month of August 2011. (Does not include non-work order tasks.)

Grounds/Irrigation Department

The RCSC grounds department completed the third and final 2011 planing of all lawn bowl greens. In addition, they verticut all lawn bowling greens and began preparing the Lakeview greens for the upcoming 2011 PBA (Professional Bowls Association) event to be held October 7th – 13th.The Grounds / Irrigation Department also over-seeded the Sun Bowl amphitheatre and surrounding grass areas. (They will also over-seed the softball field in early October.) In addition, to all the above, this crew routinely mowed and watered all RCSC lawn bowling greens, the ball park, the Sunbowl amphitheatre and still found time to repair broken irrigation lines and prune some trees around the recreation centers.

Clubs & Activities Office

A Dive-In Movie (Mamma Mia) was held at the Bell Center swimming pools on Friday September 23, 2011 at 7pm. One Hundred Eighty Eight (188) cardholders and their guests attended this free event. If you did not come out for this event I hope you will consider attending one of the next Dive-In-Movies.

The Clubs and Activities Office would like to remind cardholders to watch the SunViews for upcoming bus tours, dinner shows and free Sun Bowl shows. It is simply beautiful sitting under the stars, at the Sun Bowl, every Sunday night watching great entertainment and eating a hot dog, bratwurst or Italian Sausage purchased from Benny’s Hot Dog Cart. Entertainers at this Sunday’s Sun Bowl show (10/2/11) is the Bar-D Wranglers from Durango, Colorado. Show starts at 6:30PM. Hope to see you there!

General Centers Information

I would like to highlight Herb Hansen in my report today. Herb is the daytime Lead Utility Worker at Bell Center. Herb came to work at the RCSC as a Utility Worker at Sundial Center in September of 1998. In July 2008 he was promoted and transferred to Bell Center and became the daytime Lead Utility Worker. Herb stays busy planning work schedules and providing safety training for his staff. He oversees the utility workers as they clean and maintain Bell Center’s many areas including club rooms, bowling facility, parking lots, swimming pools, spas, fitness areas and the many sports areas such as mini golf, racquet ball courts, table tennis, tennis courts and shuffleboard to name a few. In addition, Herb oversees the Facility Attendants who are generally busy checking in cardholders and guests and overseeing the fitness, aquatics and game areas at Bell Center. Herb has a great personality and consistently does a great job for the RCSC. Herb is always ready to tackle new challenges and goes the extra mile in assisting cardholders and his staff. The next time you see Herb Hansen zooming around Bell Center, give him a high five and thank him for his service and dedication to this fine organization and the many wonderful Sun Citizens who frequent Bell Center.
