Changes coming to SunViews – RCSC’s monthly newsletter

May 24, 2011 |

In response to the continued requests by cardholders for more communication, the RCSC Board of Directors has decided to make some changes to the monthly SunViews. The Board will designate RCSC’s newsletter, the SunViews, as the key component for communicating important information about RCSC from the Board, including news about Board decisions, committee discussions and recommendations, corporate financials and trends, and upcoming events and activities.

As part of this change, the number of chartered club articles published in SunViews will be reduced effective July 1. Club articles will be published on a rotation basis during the months of October through March, with no club articles being published during the other six months of the year, April through September. Each club will have the opportunity to publish one article during the high season, with the month of publication to be determined by draw. This rotation schedule draw will be held by the RCSC Communications Department each spring to determine the publication schedule for the following fall-winter. Clubs will then be informed of their publication month and given a deadline for when they must submit their article for publication. The draw for this upcoming fall-winter has already taken place and clubs have been informed of their assigned month and deadline. But this new format will not restrict clubs’ abilities to promote communitywide events and concerts that they plan and sponsor throughout the year. A new Events section will be created in SunViews, which will list upcoming events sponsored by RCSC and chartered clubs. Also, a new section for Classes occasionally offered by various chartered clubs will be created to allow continued exposure for these activities. Finally, all clubs will still have their meeting times, location and activity hours published on the activities pages each month.

The Board understands some clubs may be disappointed with the decision to reduce club articles, however, the Board feels that it is vitally important that they make SunViews their primary communication tool for providing RCSC and Board information. As their fiduciary duty prescribes, the RCSC Board decided not to increase expenses by expanding the SunViews to accommodate both the need for more communication from RCSC and as many club articles. Reducing the club articles was the only logical solution to responding to the constant call for improved communication without adding any cost to RCSC as many cardholders do not have access to email or RCSC’s website. The Board knows that change is not easy; however, they believe that taking this new focus with SunViews will provide an improved benefit to all cardholders who want to know the latest news and information about RCSC.
