Don’t miss the fun, fun, fun at Fairway & Bell’s upcoming fairs!

Sun City has 50 years of rich traditions behind it and one of those will be making a comeback. John Meeker was wildly successful in promoting “community events” that were often bigger than life and helped sell Sun City as a retirement destination. With the passage of time, many of those events have fallen by the wayside. Running a community with a massive volunteer base is often a challenge; especially given we are seeing more buyers who are still working.
Fortunately Sun City has held onto one of the long standing traditions, individual recreation center fun fairs! These fairs that showcase what each center and club has to offer rotate through the community annually. Oakmont’s fun fair was a great success and hopefully you were able to attend and appreciate the offerings of Sun City’s very first recreation center! Don’t miss the upcoming fun fairs at Fairway this weekend, March 17, and Bell’s coming up on Saturday, March 31! Both run from 8am to 3pm!
In an email sent to General Manager Jan Ek, a resident asked why we (the RCSC) don’t do a better job of promoting these events. It was a brilliant observation and one that brought a small sub-committee of the marketing committee together to reconsider our direction.
It is clear, the idea of marketing Sun City really is critical to our future. Jan Ek noted that developers always try and promote that sense of community and was quick to point out the clubs are at the very heart of showcasing the active way of life. The more potential buyers see, the more likely they are to buy.
The sub-committee came away with two courses of action: The first was to approach the Board of Directors and begin an aggressive plan for the coming years in getting behind this entire concept of fun fairs and their promotion. The second was even larger; we will begin to evaluate ways to reinvent some of those early large scale community events that made Sun City so popular.
We would love to hear comments from Sun City residents and homeowners regarding this idea. Please come discuss with the Board at the board/member exchange on Monday, March 19 at the Lakeview Social at 9 am. Perhaps of greater importance, we encourage all Sun City residents to stop by the Fairway Center Fun Fair this Saturday starting at 9 am.
