Financial Report:
We have operated within our operating and capital budget for the first quarter of 2017. Despite the fact that we have ended the quarter with a negative variance in gross income of $120k, we have operating savings that have accommodated for that difference. Remember that we did not budget revenues as conservatively for 2017 as we did in years past.
Bowling:
Bell Lanes will begin the monthly summer No-Tap bowling tournaments on May 28 and following each month on the last Sunday. All bowlers are welcome whether USBC certified or not.
On May 13, Lakeview Lanes will host a US Open Tournament Qualifier. Bowlers from all over Arizona, including some professional bowlers, will compete for a spot in the National US Open Tournament in Liverpool, New York on October 25.
Starting this weekend, April 29, the Annual Sun City Open Senior Bowling Tournament will begin and will run for two weekends. The tournament has always been successful. This year we have 60 entries (240 Bowlers) which will produce $5k – $6k in income. The tournament is open to all senior bowlers in Arizona.
Cardholder Services:
While payments on past due assessments were off slightly in March at 10.85% of past due balances, the first three months of 2017 are the strongest start to a year in at least eight years. Total accounts receivable increased by 4.7% in March and is most affected by the increase in current receivables from March, which is our largest billing month of the year. While the overall past due balances increased by 1.2% we saw both the older 60 and 90 day categories decrease by almost 3% this month. February assessments went 30 days past due at a 5.2% rate and January assessments went 60 days past due at a 3.1% rate. Both rates are right at the prior 12-month average.
Payments from our third-party collections firm totaled $15,071 in March with a year to date total of $45,551 which is 8.2% higher than the first three months of 2016.
Payments made by Cardholders through the online RCSC Web Portal also continued very strong in March with payments totaling $128,754 from 292 property owners. Year to date web portal payments total $326,483 from 770 property owners. Both the amount paid and property owner count are up over 24% from the same period in 2016.
In March property transfer related balances increased by 1% and lender owned related balances increased by 22%. Outstanding balances related to property transfers represent approximately 54% of all receivables and past due balances. At the end of March trustee sale notices on Sun City properties ended at 52 and properties owned by lending institutions at 12.
Human Resources:
Voluntary CPR, AED and First Aid training classes will be offered again this year to RCSC employees. Classes are scheduled for early May and will also be offered in the fall. Last year, 77 employees participated and received their two year certification cards. The presenting instructor is certified through the American Health & Safety Institute and works for the Sun City Fire Department.
Accounting, Information Technology and Human Resources completed reporting requirements of the Affordable Care Act in late March. Forms 1094-C were electronically filed with the IRS and employees received Form 1095-C through payroll distribution or U.S. mail.
Centers Operations and Human Resources are in the final steps of changing the job title of Utility Worker to Custodian. Those employees will continue to provide custodial services, maintenance and light repair work. The Lead Utility Worker job title is changed to Custodian Foreman. Both positions will remain in their current pay ranges.
Human Resources is in the process of updating policies, benefit manuals and intranet information for employees.
Member Services:
On Sunday, April 2, we welcomed to the stage another hit Las Vegas show, the Doobie Brothers tribute band, China Grove. What a great performance!
We were at the Sundial Auditorium on Saturday, April 8, for the Senior Prom Masquerade Ball. RCSC cardholders arrived in full costume, including masks, which enhanced the event. The king and queen were chosen, and they danced to Johnny K and Kompany while the rest of the court joined in. A great time was had by all. We can’t wait to see what next year’s theme will be.
The following night, Sunday, April 9, we were at the Sun Bowl to welcome Mogollon, a premier country rock entertainment group. Some say this was the best show so far this season and some say the best ever! Mogollon was totally engaged with and mesmerized by the Sun City audience.
On Saturday morning, April 15 we were at the Sun Bowl for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. There were 6,000 eggs stuffed with prizes and candy, and kids came from everywhere. There was face painting, pony rides and a petting zoo. This event grows bigger and bigger every year. What a joy to see all the little ones’ faces as they experience this event!
The following morning, on Easter Sunday, the Sun Bowl was the setting for the annual Sunrise Service. Presented by Pastor Brady Abel of the United Church of Sun City, the service was beautiful. The voices of the choir floated on the breeze and communion was given to approximately 500 people in attendance. This event has been a long-time Sun City AZ tradition for decades.
That same evening we welcomed to the Sun Bowl stage Savor, a Santana tribute all the way from San Diego, California. Savor performed all the classic hits of Santana, bringing back the memories of summers past.
The following Sunday, April 23, we welcomed back to the stage, another of Sun City AZ’s favorites, the Hamptons who have been voted Best Band in Arizona eight years in a row. They played a wide variety of dance and party favorites, ranging from today’s latest hits to the oldies that everyone knows by heart.
This Sunday, April 30, we close the month out with an encore Sun City AZ performance, as we present the ever-popular Rolling Stones tribute band, Jumping Jack Flash!
We will have one final performance for the spring series on May 7. This show begins at 7pm, as we close out the spring Sun Bowl series with the Doo Wah Riders. Be sure to come ready to dance, as this band will keep you on your feet.
Remember, all Sun Bowl shows are free for RCSC Cardholders and their escorted guests. Please have your RCSC Member or Privilege Card (with photo) at each of these events as key fobs are not accepted.
