Financial Report:
Since there is no monthly Board meeting in the month of July, I will include the Treasurer’s Report information in my monthly report. The balance of unrestricted funds as of June 30, 2017 was $12,909,103 which includes a $2.5M cash reserve. Restricted funds include the Preservation and Improvement Fund (“PIF”) and the Capital Reserve Fund. As of June 30, 2017, PIF had a balance of $12,689,738 plus $725,500 collected in June that was transferred into the PIF account the first part of July 2017. The Capital Reserve Fund had a balance of $5,093,830 as of June month end.
We have completed our second quarter well within our overall operating and capital budget year-to-date. Every division has a net operating positive variance from budget except the Golf Division, which is in a $33k negative variance from budget year-to-date.
Bowling:
We have developed an email procedure allowing us to notify all league bowlers of events related to their individual leagues. Email addresses will not be shared or used for solicitation and will only be used for reminders concerning start/end dates, posting of league standings and meeting dates.
On August 6, 2017 Lakeview Lanes will host the Metro Phoenix USBC 2×2 tournament. The tournament is a doubles tournament that can be bowled with multiple partners.
On August 12-13, 2017 Lakeview Lanes will host the Arizona State USBC Masters and Queens tournament. The Masters and Queens tournament consist of qualifying rounds and match play. Some of the best bowlers in Arizona will be participating in this tournament.
On August 17, 2017 the bowling center supervisors, Director of Bowling Operations and representatives of USBC will meet with all RCSC league presidents and secretaries to discuss any RCSC policy changes and USBC rule changes. This meeting allows us to meet new officers and answer any questions related to the upcoming season.
Cardholder Services:
Payments on past due assessments were the highest rate in the past four years at 13.5% of past due balances. Total accounts receivable increased by almost 8% in June and is up 7.9% from the beginning of the year. This increase from last month is attributable to a 30% increase in current receivables while all past due categories saw a decrease in June. May assessments went 30 days past due at an increased 7.3% rate and April assessments went 60 days past due at a 3.1% rate.
Payments from our third-party collections firm were very strong in June and totaled $25,081 this month with a year-to-date total of $81,410. Even with this increase in payments this is approximately 64% of the 2016 year-to-date total.
Cardholder acceptance and use of the RCSC Web Portal continues strong. Payments made by Cardholders through the online RCSC Web Portal totaled $99,432 from 220 property owners. Year-to-date web portal payments total $639,957 from 1,432 property owners.
In June, property transfer related balances increased by 1% and lender-owned related balances decreased by 50%. Outstanding balances related to property transfers represent approximately 52% of all receivables and past due balances. At the end of June, trustee sale notices on Sun City AZ properties ended at 48 and properties owned by lending institutions at eleven.
Human Resources:
The U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (CIS) has once again issued a revised version of the form I-9 which verifies an individual’s right to work in the United States. Human Resources staff have completed training on use of the form. Implementation deadline for the revised version is no later than September 18, 2017. CIS has not yet updated the Handbook for Employers.
Effective June 30, 2017 CopperPoint Indemnity Insurance Company began providing workers compensation insurance coverage to RCSC. Human Resources staff have completed the implementation process including registration, set up of users in the consumer portal and training on its use.
CopperPoint provided master copies of required labor law posters containing the new policy number. Human Resources copied, laminated and distributed copies for posting in RCSC’s 32 work locations as required by law.
During this month, Accounting, Information Technology and Human Resources continued the implementation process of the Earned Paid Sick Time (EPST) law which provides earned paid sick time to all employees in the State of Arizona. There are many requirements to the process. Last week’s pay checks contained three items required to be included on pay stubs: amount of EPST available, amount of EPST taken year-to-date, and amount of pay the employee has received as EPST. Also included in paychecks was a copy of RCSC’s EPST personnel policy.
The Earned Paid Sick Time labor law posters in English and Spanish were posted in all 32 work locations on July 1, 2017 as required.
Member Services:
Celebrating our 39th annual Fourth of July Ring That Bell Ceremony with Mike Lindquist as Uncle Sam and our host, Pastor Richard Doyens of Christ’s Church of the Valley (CCV) directed us in prayer, and Ginni Summers led us in song. We welcomed Rosie the Riveters, the largest group of Riveters alive in the country and right here in Sun City AZ. Also in attendance was Arizona State Senator Debbie Lesko, our honored Veterans and many Sun City AZ residents with their families and guests. We followed the ceremony with music, games, bowling, billiards, darts, shuffleboard and our hot dog lunch. Donations were collected to benefit the Del Webb Sun Cities Museum. Thank you Sun City AZ for being part of this holiday tradition.
On Wednesday, July 19 we had the largest crowd ever in attendance at the summer free show at Sundial Auditorium as we welcomed Jim Westover as Elvis in Hawaii. Jim’s presentation was so natural you couldn’t help but get caught up in the moment and reach back to your memories of the King of Rock ‘N Roll. Not only did he swoon the ladies, he respectfully paid tribute to our Veterans with his closing song.
Come join us for Casino Night on Saturday, September 9 from 4 to 7:30pm. We did make one major change to the program which is that alcohol will NOT be served at this event. Therefore, you are welcome to bring your own. We will have hot dogs, chips and bottled water available for purchase at $3.00 per meal. You must have your RCSC Member or Privilege card on your person at this free event for admittance, as key fobs are not accepted.

The fall Sun Bowl concert series kicks off on Sunday, September 24 with The 8 Tracks Dance Band. This is a “sure to have the crowd on their feet” type of band, so plan to join us. We will again have gourmet food vendors at Sun Bowl shows for your dining pleasure, so come early and get a great spot.
