Golf course architect credentials

January 28, 2011 |

RCSC found more than just a golf architect when we hired Tripp Davis and Associates to create a master plan for our golf courses. We found a partner who wants to help make Sun City golf a great experience for each and every player while controlling maintenance costs in the future.

The firm has won numerous awards and kudos across the United States for its designs and passion for the game of golf, and it was recently hired to design a private course near Hong Kong in China. The architectural firm is one of the most well-respected and recognized golf architectural companies in the world, and it’s helping improve golf in Sun City.

Davis’ firm is responsible for the redesigns on Lakes West in 2009 and South in 2010. But the company does more than just throw together a set of plans. Before the redesign project of South was under way, an architect from the firm met with members of the community and actually played the course with the greens committee twice to get their feel for the course and what should or should not be changed. Also, Tripp Davis himself visited Sun City several times to see the progress at Lakes West two years ago and at South last year. We are fortunate to have a firm of this stature take such interest in our RCSC golf courses.

In the past few years Tripp Davis and Associate has also completed major renovations at Preston Trail in Dallas, Texas – arguably one of the most private clubs in the U.S. and now is experiencing its longest membership wait list ever. Also recently completed is the renovation of Oak Tree National in Edmond, Okla., which was awarded a USGA Major Championship in 2014 following their work. Tripp Davis and Associates partnered with PGA Tour player Justin Leonard to design the Old American Club in The Colony, Texas, which was recognized by all four major U.S. Golf Magazines as one of the Best New Courses in the U.S. for 2010.

RCSC retained Davis’ services again for the master plan and upcoming renovation of Willowcreek and Willowbrook golf courses. Over the past six months, representatives with Tripp Davis and Associates have worked closely with members of the community and the green committees from Willowcreek and Willowbrook golf courses to develop master plans for the courses’ planned renovation. The plans were presented to the RCSC Board of Directors recently and the firm has been contracted to provide construction drawings for a portion of the Willowcreek master plan so that bids for the work can be obtained.

Golf is a vital activity to the Sun City community and RCSC’s courses need to remain viable for our Members and for future golfers who need to be attracted to move into our community. With eight golf courses to maintain, it is vital to RCSC to attract golfers to move to our community. RCSC is ecstatic that we have a partner with a love of golf that wants to ensure our courses are fun and challenging for present and future Sun City golfers.
