Wi-Fi hotspots launching at RCSC sites

April 06, 2011 |

The RCSC Board of Directors has approved a proposal to set up wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet connectivity hotspots at Lakeview Center, Lakeview Lanes, South Snack Shop and Willow Snack Shop, allowing RCSC cardholders and guests to access the Internet using their laptop computers or other mobile computing devices.

The proposal, which was put together and recommended by the Member Communication Committee, will serve as a pilot program that could lead to additional Wi-Fi hotspots at other RCSC facilities. The cost for the four initial locations is $5,900, which will be paid out of operations.

To use the Wi-Fi hotspots, cardholders will need a laptop computer or other mobile device that has wireless connectivity capabilities. When logging on at any hotspot, cardholders or guests will have to agree to a Terms of Service before they have unfettered access to the Internet. This type of setup is similar to other Wi-Fi hotspots at restaurants, hotels and other businesses.

With the Board’s approval, RCSC now will purchase and install the necessary components to setup the Wi-Fi hotspots. In addition, RCSC will work with Cox Communications to expand service to the hotspot locations to provide the Internet connectivity with the required bandwidth. The four Wi-Fi hotspots will be available for use beginning in May.
